Real Future Conditionals
A conditional sentence is made up of an if clause, or condition, and a main clause, or result
.If a child studies a foreign language in primary school, she will speak it fluently
condition
result
The order of the clauses can be reversed without changing the meaning of the sentence. When the main clause is first, no comma is used between the clauses
.A child will speak a foreign language fluently if she studies it in primary school
result
condition
Real conditionals are called “real” because they are about things that are really true or that can really happen
Real future conditionals are about things that can really happen in the future. Because they are about the future, the verb in the main clause is in future tense. However, the verb in the if clause is in present tense, even though the sentence is about the future
.Children will learn foreign languages easily if the classes are interesting and lively
future verb
present verb
.If schools don’t teach foreign languages, children won’t learn to speak them
present verb
future verb
