Modals
Modals are words such as can, may, might, should, and must. A modal is always followed by a base form verb
.Modals have different uses and meanings. Here are some common ones
Ability-can
.Younger family members can help their elderly relatives with household tasks
Possibility-could, might, may
.An elderly relative could feel more comfortable living in a special home for the elderly
.Your relative might be happier living with family members
.An older person may want to live in a quiet place
Advice-should
.They should ask for help when they need it
Obligation-must
.We must help our relatives when they need help

Read the paragraph from a student essay. Complete each blank with a modal that has the meaning indicated in parentheses
